I quite like flying. The little snacks, ginger ale, the takeoff and landing, it’s all quite fun. I spend it reading a book or watching a movie, and when I get up, I’m somewhere different.

The only circumstances that might ruin it are if there’s a crying baby or someone who smells. But then my problem isn’t with flying, it’s with the crying baby or someone who smells. And at least for the baby I can treat it as practice for when I have my own kids and have to listen to them cry.

I struggle with this for both TV and books and I agree that it's really frustrating! I've mostly given up on TV but I still grind through the opening chapters of novels, hoping to find something that's suitable.

Years ago I read Ted Chiang's novella The Lifecycle of Software Objects and there was a concept that I still think about to this day.
