Stats on acetaminophen overdose are tainted by there being several drugs, chiefly Norco and Percocet, that have a narcotic people really really like to abuse, plus acetaminophen.

I remember it being a casual point in the notes for my nephrology class in pharmacy school that if you're on NSAIDs continuously for only about 2 years you will have permanently blown out your kidneys, and being totally blown away that we kind of breezed past that without being like "wait aren't tons people taking these nonstop all the time?"

It's always been my professional opinion that acetaminophen is safer but IME NSAIDs tend to be all around better, you just need to target the latter's use instead of just constantly popping them. Also, "acetaminophen or ibuprofen" is something of a red herring question because the actual answer is you should alternate them.

For some reason I have the best results with the ibuprofen 800mg tabs too, taking multiple of the lower strengths doesn't seem quite the same. Would suggest you get your dentist or primary to hook you up with an Rx and then just never take more than one a day and on more than a few consecutive days and alternate with aggressive single doses of acetaminophen or topicals. Basically when it comes to pain you kind of want to be rotating through as many things that work as you can instead of doing just one thing. I've been meaning to write an extra explainer on outpatient options for pain management but it's been on the back burner for quite a while.

Thank you, that is hilarious. And true.
