Does this also include effects on the gut microbiome? I've heard from people I somewhat trust that aspartame is bad for your gut health by causing gut dysbiosis. I only skimmed the article and searched it for the words "gut health", "microbiome" and "dysbiosis" (They aren't there). At first glance it still seems possible that aspartam is bad for you because it's effect on the gut. I've also heard it's common that research confirms that "X is not bad for you", but never checks whether "is it also ok for your gut microbiome". I personally have no idea. What's your take on this?

I really appreciate how thoroughly you've looked at this issue and have distilled it for an ordinary person. I used to fully agree with your conclusions here and felt generally OK about drinking diet coke, but recently after receiving yet another article from anti-aspartame family members I've come back to this article and see what I now think is a big hole.

Your Literature Reviews section is relatively short but does a lot of the heavy lifting here. It serves as a reason to disregard the many studies which do find negative health effects from aspartame use. I link to one below (covering oxidative stress caused by aspartame in rats), but there's many and I've read through some of them and can't really see why I should be disregarding them. Am I supposed to just believe the experimenters are making up data in the study I linked? Because that's the only way I can picture that they could have these outcomes.

I feel like your response based on the article, and your later article (https://dynomight.substack.com/p/aspartame-brouhaha?utm_source=publication-search) where you briefly discuss oxidative stress would be that this study must be wrong because there's no conceivable mechanism by which Aspartame could cause this effect. But then why the study?
